Chitwan. The Naubise-Malekhu road section of the Prithvi Highway has collapsed at three places after the Rasuwa flood eroded the base of the road.

Krishnabhir, which is 23 km from Muglin towards Kathmandu, has been the most affected by the flood. According to Engineer Shachendra Mishra, information officer of the Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project, about 200 meters of the road has collapsed in Krishnabhir. The hill on the wall of the road has also been cracked.

The road has also submerged around 50 meters in Sital Bazaar, which is three kilometers from Malekhu towards Muglin. One kilometer from the Malekhu bridge at Parewabhir towards Kathmandu, the side of the road has also collapsed 100 meters on the side of the road.

Divisional Engineer Sajana Adhikari, chief of this section, said that the Trishuli river is currently eroding at Krishnabhir and other places. The flood has washed away the retaining wall installed on the river bank at Krishnabhir. Now the water flow is causing damage. He said that the river level is decreasing and increasing and erosion is taking place at the bottom of the road. The engineer officer said that the river is eroding the weak areas as it could not cause damage in the rocky areas.

This year, the Trishuli river has changed its course and focused on the wall of the road next to the wall. Mishra, the engineer of the project, said that the lower part of the road has been damaged due to this. He said, “The big flood has changed the course and caused damage on both sides.” There is no immediate situation to repair Krishnabhir. Preparations are being made to repair the road by cutting the wall in Sital Bazaar. ”

Rajiv Manandhar, engineer of the eastern section of the project, said that the river side of the road has collapsed in Parewabhir. Around 100 meters of the road has collapsed and has come down to blacktop. Vehicles except essential ones have been stopped at the place due to further damage and risk.

Since it is not possible to work from below, preparations have been made to open the road by evening by cutting the wall and leveling it below. Preparations have been made to shift the electric poles on the wall at that place.

Although two places of this section can be repaired, Krishnabhir could not be operated immediately, after which a study has been started for the operation of an alternative road from Gorkha. Out of the roads on that side, the appropriate roads are being repaired immediately and an alternative road is being constructed. About 14,000 vehicles used to ply daily through this road, which is the lifeline of the capital.
