21 bodies identified in Pokhara after Bhotekoshi floods

Kaski. Out of the 102 bodies found during rescue and search after the floods in Rasuwa and brought to Pokhara for examination and management, 21 bodies have been identified and handed over to the families on Tuesday.

Assistant Chief District Officer of District Administration Office, Chitrangat Baral, said that the 76 unidentified bodies have been safely managed at Sisaughari in Pokhara-16.TAG_OPEN_div_10

According to him, there are still five dead bodies in the mortuary of Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences. More than one family has claimed that more than one of the dead bodies has seen the photos and further tests are yet to be done. “The bodies have been safely managed as they can be kept in the mortuary for a long time and there is a risk of epidemic. We have taken the DNA of all the bodies. If the DNA of the family matches can be handed over to the concerned family,” Baral said.TAG_OPEN_div_8

22 bodies recovered from Dhading, seven from Gorkha, 25 from Nawalparasi and 22 from Tanahun have been dismantled. The bodies were kept in a plastic bag that could not penetrate air into a deep pit and buried with mud. After burying the body, a ‘stand’ with the code number of the dead body has been made by placing a pot.
