PM Shah claims that the government has made arrangements for search, rescue and treatment in coordination with all agencies.

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the information organization, coordination and monitoring has been started immediately after the floods in the Bhotekoshi River through the ‘Joint Operation Committee’ of the Nepal Army, the ‘Quick Action Team’ of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the ‘Rapid Action Team’ of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Addressing today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he said that the injured have been rescued and brought to Kathmandu for treatment in the affected areas. “We have allocated 100 beds at the National Trauma Center and Bir Hospital. We have kept all other big hospitals ready,” he said.

Stating that medical teams have been mobilized in coordination with the government, Nepal Scout, World Health Organization and Nepal Red Cross to the affected areas, he said coordination has been started with the Blood Transfusion Service Centre, the Health Ministries of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, Nepal Red Cross Society, Lions Club and others to ensure emergency health service, medicines and blood shortage.TAG_OPEN_div_52

Prime Minister TAG_OPEN_div_50 Balendra Shah said that a team led by Minister for Information and Communications Dr Bikram Timilsina left for the flood-affected areas at 3:00 pm on August 26, the same day the floods occurred.

He said that the public has been urged to provide financial assistance to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund and Prime Minister Relief Fund for the affected areas, adding that the government is not only concerned about search, rescue and treatment in the affected areas but also has another responsibility to make safe arrangements for the homeless people.TAG_OPEN_div_48

Stating that eight truckloads of relief materials were dispatched to the affected areas at midnight on Wednesday midnight on the day of the incident, he said voice, data and SMS services were provided free of cost to the mobile phone users by the same night.TAG_OPEN_div_46

A total of 13,295 security personnel including Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed in the disaster-hit areas till 8:00 pm today and 351 rescued in 69 sorties, the Prime Minister said.TAG_OPEN_div_40

“Priority was given to the seriously injured, pregnant, pregnant women, children, senior citizens and people with disabilities during the flight. Preparations were made for the immediate settlement of the affected 3,500 people in schools and public community buildings in the area,” he said.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Shah informed the House that arrangements have been made to send relief materials to the national emergency godown building at Tribhuvan International Airport, Maithil Barrack of Nepal Army at Battar of Nuwakot and Baireni Barrack in Dhading on a priority basis.TAG_OPEN_div_36

According to him, a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on the same day decided to donate one month’s salary of the Prime Minister and ministers to the Prime Minister’s Relief and Rescue Fund.TAG_OPEN_div_34

} “Along with search, rescue, treatment and relief distribution in the affected areas, efforts were also started to connect the damaged roads with the affected areas,” he said, “We intensified the rescue operation in the affected areas immediately after the incident. We have rescued 11,993 people till some time ago.” However, 3,916 people are out of contact and out of the 292 injured who were rescued and admitted to various hospitals, 182 were sent home after treatment till a while ago, he said. He said that health workers are working to improve the health of the remaining injured.

Prime Minister Shah said that a team of experts from Kathmandu is also being deployed for the treatment of the people of the affected areas. He said, “We are running various campaigns to prevent the spread of any epidemic in the affected areas. Information is also being disseminated through various means for the prevention of disease in the affected areas.TAG_OPEN_div_30 ”

He said that necessary training has also been provided to the health officials at the state and local levels for the effective implementation of the ‘Post-Disaster Communicable Disease Surveillance and Response Plan’.TAG_OPEN_div_28
