557 people of Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project still out of contact

Issuing a press release today, Nepal Water and Energy Development Company Pvt Ltd, the promoter company of the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, said that 385 people of Power China, the subsidiary contractor who was awarded the contract for the construction of the main civil structure, have gone out of contact.TAG_OPEN_div_35

As many as TAG_OPEN_div_33 94 people of Andritz Hydro, the subcontractor of hydro mechanical and electro mechanical subsidiary, are out of contact.

15 people from Nepal Water and Energy Development Company Pvt Ltd, seven from consultant company Z Consultant and 56 from the main contractor Dusan are still out of contact.TAG_OPEN_div_31

TAG_OPEN_div_29 According to the company, about 115 of those who are out of contact are suspected to be trapped inside the headworks area and the main tunnel. According to the company, 876 people have been rescued from the Upper Trishuli 1 Hydropower Project.

This project was under construction in Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality-1, Haku area and Uttargaya Rural Municipality-1 of Rasuwa district. The project was targeted to be completed by July 2084.

TAG_OPEN_div_23 Although a warning was issued before the flood, most of the employees and workers working at the construction site and office could not move to a safe place due to heavy floods and mud entering the project site in a very short time. At that time, 1,433 people were working in the project.

Among them, 27 were from the promoter company, 20 from consultant Tractwell and Z Consult, 78 from the main contractor Dusan, 1,069 from the main civil subcontractor Power China and 239 from the electromechanical subcontractor Andritz Hydro.TAG_OPEN_div_21

The company said that the search and rescue operation has become very challenging due to the difficult geographical situation, extensive damage caused by floods, risk inside the tunnel and the possibility of further landslides, and adverse weather. The company is still continuing the rescue work.
