Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all three tiers of governments to make rescue, relief, treatment and rehabilitation in the areas affected by the floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers more effective.

Issuing a press release today, NHRC Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel stressed the need to conduct rescue, relief and rehabilitation in the aftermath of disasters in a human rights-friendly manner.

A preliminary monitoring team has been mobilized in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan among other districts to carry out rescue operations, treat the injured and the human rights status of the affected people in holding centers.

Paying tribute to those killed in the floods, the NHRC extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished for speedy recovery of the injured.

Likewise, the ministry expressed gratitude to security personnel, health workers, civil employees, psycho-social counselors, national and international organisations and the general public involved in humanitarian assistance.

The NHRC has also urged all three tiers of governments to collaborate and coordinate with the private sector in rescue, relief, treatment and rehabilitation of flood-affected areas.

The Commission has urged the general public to cooperate with the government in activities related to rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction in this difficult situation of the disaster, to be active in humanitarian assistance work and not to make negative comments on the pain of the affected families on social media. The Commission has also requested the public to stay away from information and news that can spread rumours.
