Development Committee directs govt to give top priority to rescue efforts

Kathmandu. The House of Representatives, Infrastructure Development Committee has directed the government to give high priority to the immediate search, rescue and safe relocation of those trapped in the tunnels and other places of the Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project.

Today’TAG_OPEN_div_26 s meeting of the committee has directed to expedite the rescue operation in coordination with the government and local levels. The committee has also directed to immediately restore the flood-disrupted road network and repair the damaged roads and bridges at the earliest.

Committee Chair Ashish Gajurel said that the government has been drawn to make arrangements for alternative routes and temporary bridges if it takes time to construct permanent structures including bridges and roads.TAG_OPEN_div_24

He said that the meeting decided to request the concerned ministry to repair the power lines and structures disrupted by the floods and restore the power service at the earliest.TAG_OPEN_div_22

The meeting also directed the stakeholders to mobilize financial and technical support from the private sector, development partners and international organizations for the speedy reconstruction of disaster-damaged roads, bridges, electricity, hydropower and other essential infrastructures.TAG_OPEN_div_20

The committee has directed the government to prioritize the construction of safe, sustainable and disaster-resilient infrastructure by mobilizing the assistance received from donor agencies in an integrated and transparent manner.TAG_OPEN_div_18

The meeting also decided to request the government to further strengthen early warning and early warning system with modern technology and make it functional up to the local level for reducing the risk of climate-related disasters.TAG_OPEN_div_16

} The committee has asked to develop an integrated information system so that the exact details of the affected areas, families and people will be updated immediately. The meeting has also requested the government to immediately provide relief materials, food, health services and other necessary assistance to the flood-affected areas on the basis of needs and priorities.
