Bhotekoshi floods: Pun calls for immediate rescue of people trapped in hydropower projects, tunnels and power houses

Member of the House of Representatives and leader of the Communist Party of Nepal, Barshaman Pun, has drawn the attention of the government to expedite the search and rescue of the people trapped and out of contact in the areas affected by the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods.

During the special hour of the assembly, he urged the government through the Speaker to carry out search and rescue of those trapped in hydropower projects, tunnels and power houses due to floods as soon as possible as well as to make the relief distribution effective and just.TAG_OPEN_div_22

He further said that the Prime Minister should give a concrete shape to the formation of an all-party mechanism at the central, provincial and local levels as the parties have already decided.TAG_OPEN_div_20

Lawmaker Barshaman Pun stressed the need for a clear strategy for immediate rescue and relief as well as long-term rehabilitation and disaster management.TAG_OPEN_div_18

He also demanded the establishment of the National Himalayan Climate and Disaster Fund, making the early warning system more effective and making arrangements for regular monitoring and study of the Himalayan areas.TAG_OPEN_div_16

Gyan Bahadur Shahi, parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, urged the government to immediately send rescue teams to the flood-affected areas as people might still be trapped in some tunnels. He suggested mobilizing available resources and consulting with experts for rescue operations.TAG_OPEN_div_14
