Kathmandu. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov has said that Russia is committed to meeting India’s energy needs. He criticized the Western Secondary Sanctions and Tariffs on Russian oil purchases as a strategy to put pressure on India.

Speaking to ANI, he said that India can take a decision on power purchase as per its national interest. “We will be ready to supply as much oil as it needs to India. Those who impose sanctions and tariffs have adopted a strategy of pressure instead of honest cooperation,” he said.

He said the secondary sanctions could also affect refineries, shipping companies and banks in third countries that deal with Russian oil. He alleged that such measures were trying to prevent India from buying Russian oil at competitive prices.

Claiming that efforts to separate Russian oil from the world market are not possible, Alipov said that the energy market cannot afford to boycott Russian crude oil. According to him, Russian oil will continue to be available in the market for India and other countries.

The ambassador’s remarks came at a time when Western countries, including the United States and the European Union (EU), are extending secondary sanctions on Russian energy transactions. India, on the other hand, has been formulating its crude oil purchase policy based on national interest, market conditions and consumer price stability.
