Bhotekoshi floods: Government, private sector collaborate to revive tourism sector

{{TAG_OPEN_div_33} Kathmandu. Discussions have been held on moving ahead through collaboration and coordination between the government and the private sector to revive the tourism sector damaged by the floods in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has formed a Rapid Response Team (QRT) under the coordination of Tourism Board member Sahadev Dhamala to revive the tourism sector after the floods.TAG_OPEN_div_31

During the meeting, QRT coordinator Dhamala expressed the belief that the government and the private sector would move forward by turning grief into strength in the hour of crisis. He said that the coordination between the ministry and the private sector has been effective since the last one week and works are being done to find immediate solutions to various problems at the ministerial level.TAG_OPEN_div_29

He said that more TAG_OPEN_div_27 initiatives would be taken at the World Tourism Organization to remove Nepal from the risk area at the international level. He said that preparations are being made to bring the ‘Langtang’ area into operation soon as the main attraction of this revival campaign. He expressed the belief that opening the Langtang trekking route and tourist area, which was closed after the earthquake, would send a positive message that Nepal is safe and capable of dealing with the crisis.

The meeting also decided to revise the damage detail form being used by the Government of Nepal as per the need and collect details of the damage caused to the hotels and restaurants and tourism service providers in the affected districts. The meeting also decided to make necessary coordination between the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Tourism and the Nepal Tourism Board to prepare a ‘Tourism Recovery Cycle’ for the revival of tourism in the affected areas.TAG_OPEN_div_25

The meeting also decided to request the government to construct a bailey bridge in the Langtang area in the current season. The meeting also stressed on the need to effectively disseminate the message that other tourist destinations and tourism services of Nepal except the flood-affected areas are operating safely, said Hikmat Singh Ayer, acting chief executive officer of the Nepal Tourism Board.TAG_OPEN_div_23

The meeting also decided to coordinate with the international tourism organizations including the United Nations World Tourism Organization (PATA and PATA) to provide factual information about Nepal’s tourism situation to the international community and to hold dialogue with representatives of the international media in Nepal.TAG_OPEN_div_21
