Bhotekoshi floods: 1,341 bodies recovered, 4,044 still missing

Kathmandu. Among those killed in the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26, 1,341 bodies have been recovered so far while 4,044 people are still missing.

According to the Police Headquarters, 325 women, 523 men and 493 bodies have been found in unrecognizable condition. According to Nepal Police Central Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abinarayan Kafle, 4,044 people are still missing.TAG_OPEN_div_31

Among those out of contact, 2,TAG_OPEN_div_29 863 are domestic men, 575 are female and 269 are male and 332 female and five others are out of contact, Kafle said.

The security agencies have continued the search and rescue operation of the missing in the flood-hit areas, police said.TAG_OPEN_div_27

Of them, 1,037 bodies have been safely buried in the ground and managed while the process of identification and management of the remaining bodies has been initiated.TAG_OPEN_div_25

So far, 9,TAG_OPEN_div_23 151 injured people have been rescued after the floods. Of the rescued, 3,098 have been safely kept in the holding center, police said.

Similarly, DNA samples of 2,472 people, including 1,286 of the deceased and 1,186 of the relatives of the deceased, have been collected.TAG_OPEN_div_21

Spokesperson Kafle said that DNA sample collection has been taken up with priority for identifying the missing people and identifying the dead bodies.TAG_OPEN_div_19

There has been a huge loss of life after the Bhotekoshi floods. Nepal Police, security agencies and various government agencies are continuously mobilized for the search, rescue and management of the bodies of the missing in the floods.
