America. The 81st General Assembly of the United Nations began here on Tuesday. The General Assembly began in New York, the headquarters of the United Nations, and will continue till September 29.

President Khalur Rahman and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the 20-day session under the theme ‘Restore Trust, Manage Transformation: United Nations Working for All’.

On the occasion, Chairman Rahman expressed his confidence that the ongoing 81st session of UNGA would be successful in addressing global problems through in-depth and effective discussions and deliberations on the burning issues of world peace, security, justice and climate change.

Similarly, discussions would be held on the implementation of sustainable development strategies, environmental sustainability, human rights and humanitarian issues, digital governance and use of technology, and restructuring of the UN for multilateral benefit, among others, they said.

Guterres called on the UN to pay attention to address the conflicts in the present context with appropriate strategies and programmes.

Stating that the entire world was affected by climate change, sustainable development, poverty, conflict, division and the nuclear risk, Guterres said the PAC was the appropriate forum for resolving problems through mutual cooperation, dialogue and collaboration.

Issuing a press release on the occasion of the commencement of the PAC, the Permanent Mission of Nepal in New York said that the 81st PAC is expected to have a constructive and fruitful dialogue. Likewise, the UNGA is willing to work on the issues of world peace, development, humanity and climate justice through dialogue and collective efforts.

The mission also extended congratulations to Bangladeshi diplomat Rahman on assuming office as the President of the UN General Assembly.

Meanwhile, on behalf of Nepal, Permanent Mission to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa urged the government to accelerate the development of the least developed countries for global solidarity and result-oriented results. Thapa made the remarks during the mid-term review meeting of the ministerial level of African countries comprising the least developed countries.

In his capacity as the Group Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Thapa appealed to all to work according to the financial resources and commitments for production capacity enhancement, digitalization, climate change resilience, regional trade, social security and sustainable development.
