Kathmandu. The government has started a survey to identify the needs of the families living in the holding centers of different districts affected by the floods in the Bhotekoshi River and to arrange temporary accommodation.

The survey has been forwarded as per the plan to arrange separate temporary accommodation for each family within a few weeks from the holding centers operated to keep the affected citizens safe in case of emergency.

The Department of Urban Development and Building Construction under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development has been mobilizing teams in the flood-affected districts since Tuesday and collecting details through the ‘Needs Assessment Form’ using the ‘Cobo Toolbox’.

The survey will be conducted to collect details of affected people and families, the status of damage to houses, the number of deceased or missing family members, the preference for taking temporary shelter or renting with government assistance, availability of land and suitable alternatives for relocation.

Likewise, the needs related to drinking water, sanitation and other necessary infrastructure and services would also be identified.

Currently, the survey is being conducted with the aim of identifying the needs of the families in the holding center and helping the government implement the temporary settlement plan. The goal is to complete the survey of all the families in the holding center within a week.

After the survey of the affected families in the holding center is completed, the details of the flood-affected families outside the holding center will also be collected using the same need assessment form.
