President Lamichhane appeals for climate justice

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP) President Rabi Lamichhane has called on the world community to stand united for climate justice on the basis of national unity and humanity and not on the traditional basis of ruling and opposition parties during the time of disaster.

Taking time in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, President Lamichhane said all were united in the Bhotekoshi disaster and expressed the belief that the country would look for future again in the light of conscience and humanity.

Stating that the government is working day and night in rescue and search with all possible efforts, President Lamichhane said that the complaint that the state did nothing after losing a loved one should not be taken otherwise. “If a person who is deeply hurt curses God, then it is not a big deal to complain and express anger to the government, RSP and the state,” said President Lamichhane. Action will be taken if any RSP cadre is involved in such acts. The government should also take action as per the law. Urging the government to adopt the constructive words coming from the opposition for disaster management, he urged all not to do politics in the name of disaster.

He said that those affected by the climate crisis are victims of climate injustice, and that the victims are not the victims of this catastrophe.

“We should muster courage to demand justice from the world only by paying tribute to those who are compelled to lose their lives due to the unequal weight of the climate crisis,” Lamichhane said.

Appreciating the security personnel and rescuers in rescue and search works, he praised the contribution of the private sector, media and non-resident Nepali sector in this hour of crisis.
