Kathmandu. As many as 607 foreign tourists from 34 countries have gone missing due to floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa district.

Information Officer of the Department of Tourism, Suraj Ghimire, said that 607 foreign tourists who had gone to Gosaikunda for Kailash Mansarovar and Janai Purnima fairs through various companies have gone missing. Among the missing foreign tourists, 269 are male, 329 female and nine are non-gendered citizens. The highest number of foreign nationals who have gone missing are from neighboring country India.

According to the department, 189 Indian nationals have gone missing. Apart from this, 33 people from Australia, two from Belarus, 30 from Canada, one from Finland, four from France, eight from Germany, one from Hungary, two from Irish, one from Israel, one from Lithuania, 55 from Malaysia and two from the Netherlands have gone missing.

Five are in New Zealand, two in Portugal, six in Russia, nine in Singapore, six in South Africa, two in Spain, 54 in Ukraine, 32 in the UK, 65 in the US, five in Japan, one in the Philippines, three in Kazakhstan, two in Belgium and one in Sweden.

Of them, 33 tourists from Latvia, one from Switzerland, two from Italy, 37 from China, one from Vietnam, two from Estonia and nine from Korea have gone missing. A total of 188 tourists from Nepal have gone missing due to floods. According to the department, 161 are men and 27 women. The missing are Nepalis who had gone missing as helpers of foreign tourists and had gone to Kailash Mansarovar and Gosaikunda.

The government has also continued its rescue operations amid the disaster. So far, 310 foreign tourists have been successfully rescued, according to the department. Among the rescued, 258 are men and 52 are women. Similarly, 13 of those who went missing after the floods (three men, nine women and one other) have come to contact. The local administration and security agencies have intensified search and relief operations for the disappeared.
