Federation of Truck Entrepreneurs Suggests Easing Transportation of Essential Goods During Festivals

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Truck Entrepreneurs of Nepal (FNTE) has suggested making some arrangements for the operation of large cargo vehicles to facilitate the transportation of essential goods during the festive season.

Federation President Rajendra Bikram Baniya and General Secretary Badri Prasad Chaulagain, who took part in a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, stressed the need of keeping in mind the condition of roads, pressure of passenger vehicles and supply of essential goods during the Dashain festival.

Federation President Baniya said that the Department of Roads has informed about the condition of various roads and based on this, the operation of cargo vehicles should be managed during Dashain. He suggested that big cargo vehicles should be operated according to the need and condition of the road and the vehicles carrying essential goods should be given priority to ply.

“The Department of Roads has informed about the condition of which road. On the basis of this, there was a discussion about not bringing big goods vehicles, but allowing the vehicles carrying essential goods to operate,” Baniya said.

According to him, the Federation is of the opinion that the movement of passengers should also be taken into consideration while operating cargo vehicles as the pressure of passenger vehicles is high during Dashain. He said that cargo vehicles should be managed according to the condition of the road and the pressure of passengers so that the supply of essential commodities is not stopped.

Baniya said that discussions were also held to carry out detailed arrangements for the Dashain festival by coordinating with the Department of Roads.

“The transportation of essential goods should not be stopped. We have suggested to operate cargo vehicles keeping this in mind as passenger vehicles are more frequent. We have discussed with the department to sit better and make necessary arrangements,” he said.

President Baniya and General Secretary Chaulagain were present in the meeting. The federation has suggested that the government should make necessary preparations keeping in mind the condition of roads and the pressure of vehicles before Dashain.
