Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority, NEA’s subsidiary companies and 11 power generating stations operated by the private sector have been closed due to the Bhotekoshi floods on August 26.

A total of 275 MW has been damaged by the floods, including 7 hydropower projects and 1 solar project.

With this, a total of 410 MW of electricity has been drained from the national system due to floods. Six hydropower projects with a capacity of 508 MW under construction have also been damaged.

According to Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, around Rs 5 billion is estimated to be required for the reconstruction and restoration of damaged power projects.

The floods have caused severe damages to Trishuli-3B Hub 220 KV, Matatirtha-Chilime 220 KV Hub, transmission lines, switchyard and distribution infrastructure.

According to preliminary assessments, Rs 390.62 billion will be required for the revival of the overall power sector.
