Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill passed

Kathmandu. The meeting of the House of Representatives today unanimously endorsed the ‘Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’ after discussion in principle.

In the meeting, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, who took over as the Prime Minister, presented a proposal that the bill be considered. Responding to the questions raised during the discussion, Minister Wagle said that further discussions would be held in the concerned committee during the clause-wise discussions.TAG_OPEN_div_19

He said that the bill has been brought as an attempt to reform the economy as the existing structures have not been able to address the issues including systemic liquidity.TAG_OPEN_div_17

Lawmakers Sushil Khadka, Niti Bhandari Karki, Prem Lal Chaudhary, Krishna Hari Budhathoki, Ganesh Poudel, Ninu Kumari Karna, Prem Bahadur Bayak, Madhu Kumar Chaulagain, Eshuda Kumari Baral and Parshuram Tamang participated in the discussion. They said that although the arrival of foreign digital payments in Nepal is welcome, there should be clarity about the benefits of foreign digital payments to Nepal and the safe transactions.TAG_OPEN_div_15

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal informed the members to give notice of amendment to the bill as per the regulation.TAG_OPEN_div_13

} The letter received from the Office of the President was read out to Finance Minister Dr Wagle as he is leading a Nepali delegation to the United States of America to attend the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations. The meeting is ongoing.
