More than Rs 7.30 billion in import of EVs, Rs 4.61 billion imported from China alone

{{TAG_OPEN_div_39} Kathmandu. In the first two months of the current fiscal year, Nepal has imported electric vehicles (EVs) worth Rs 7.30 billion. According to the data of the Department of Customs, a total of 6,648 electric vehicles, including assembled and unassembled, entered Nepal from different countries in July and August.

TAG_OPEN_div_37 China accounted for the largest share of EVs imported during the two-month period. China alone imported 4,769 electric vehicles worth Rs 4,61,38,13,000. The government collected Rs 3,05,85,82,000 from vehicles imported from China.

Although the major border points on the Chinese side were affected and closed due to the floods in Bhotekoshi, Rasuwa, a large number of electric vehicles have been imported from China. The border point was closed due to floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa on August 26. Even though the border point is closed, the share of EV imports from China is the largest in the overall data of two months.

Similarly, 1,529 EVs worth Rs 1,68,38,86,000 have been imported from India. The government has collected Rs 72,66,55,000 from electric vehicles imported from India.TAG_OPEN_div_33

Similarly, 348 electric vehicles have been imported from Thailand. The import value of these vehicles is Rs 1.01 billion. The government has collected Rs 70.99 crore from EVs imported from Thailand.TAG_OPEN_div_31

Two electric vehicles have been imported from the United States, according to the data. The import value of these two vehicles is Rs 78.17 lakh while the government has collected Rs 72.09 lakh.TAG_OPEN_div_29

Unassembled three-wheeler EV imports increased

The number of unassembled three-wheeler EVs is significant among the electric vehicles imported in two months. 2,143 unassembled three-wheeler EVs have been imported from China alone. Similarly, 104 unassembled three-wheeler EVs have been imported from India.

During the period, 881 assembly electric three-wheelers were imported from China and 686 from India.TAG_OPEN_div_24

Apart from this, 1,745 electric vehicles were imported from China, 739 from India, 348 from Thailand and two other electric vehicles from the United States, according to the department.TAG_OPEN_div_22

Overall, the government has collected revenue of Rs 4.50 billion from the import of electric vehicles in the first two months of the current fiscal year. In terms of both the quantity and value of imports, the highest number of electric vehicles have been imported from China.TAG_OPEN_div_20
