Kathmandu. The United States of America Nepal Cooperative Society (ANHS), which is active in Virginia, USA, has handed over USD 92,964 (estimated Rs 10 million, 42 lakh Nepali) collected to the Government of Nepal for the relief and rehabilitation of the communities affected by the recent Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi floods and landslides in Nepal.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal, who is in New York to attend the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations, was handed over a cheque by the representatives of the society after reaching New York from Virginia. The amount will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund and the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

While receiving the cheque, Foreign Minister Khanal thanked the organization and expressed confidence that the amount received would be utilized properly. He also expressed the view that the Government of Nepal was positive to solve the problems of Nepalis living abroad and the suggestions given by the representatives of ANHS.

On the occasion, President of America Nepal Assistance Society Kamana Panthi gave brief introduction of ANHS and informed about the activities being carried out by the association.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees Kedar Prasad Timsina, coordinator of relief collection committee Madhusudan Panthi, former president of the organization Padam Raj Regmi and former president Kamala Kharel also offered suggestions regarding the immediate measures that the government could take to resolve the problems of Nepalis living abroad.

The program was coordinated by US Charge d’ Affaires to Nepal Sharad Raj Aran and coordinated by Consul General of the United States in New York, Dadhiram Bhandari.

An 11-member committee was formed under the coordination of Madhusudan Panthi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Kedar Prasad Timsina, current Executive Committee Chairman Kamana Panthi, former Presidents Sagar Kandel, Padam Raj Regmi, Kamala Kharel, Kamal Bhattarai, Janu Ojha, Finance Chief Tilak Kharel, General Secretary of the Executive Committee Bishnu Neupane and Treasurer Dhruba Baral.

The committee has appealed to all the members of ANHS, local organizations and businessmen and various donors to contribute as per their wishes to the Bhotekoshi Flood and Landslide Relief Fund established by the organization.

Immediately after the Bhotekoshi avalanche, the American Nepal Cooperative Society lit a lamp at the Nyack Building in Virginia to pay tribute to the deceased.
