Kathmandu. The government is preparing to distribute identity cards to farmers. Preparations are being made to distribute identity cards to the farmers included in the list of farmers from Kathmandu soon.

Dr. Sanjeev Pandit, an official of the center, said that there is a plan to provide necessary services and support to the farmers by distributing identity cards to the farmers who have completed the listing of farmers. The farmers who receive the identity card will be provided with agricultural insurance, grants, relief, production incentives, agricultural mechanization, technology transfer, subsidized agricultural loans and other targeted agricultural services.

He said that the identity cards to be distributed will be important to make the status of irrigation and the status of production and agribusiness based on statistics. The government had prepared the institutional and technical basis for the implementation of the Farmer Listing Program Implementation Procedure, 2077 and the Farmer Listing System Management and Operation Directive, 2081.

The center has coordinated with all the local levels to identify the real farmers. The list of farmers is also being carried out on the basis of data collection of agricultural land, irrigation, crop and livestock production, agricultural business, etc.

According to the Agriculture Census 2078, there are 41.30 lakh farmers across the country. So far, more than 26 lakh farmers have been enlisted. The process of listing the remaining farmers is also going on, the center said.
