Private sector complains to President Poudel: Investment slowdown, industrialists need to restore confidence

{{TAG_OPEN_div_40}Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel said that the collaboration between the government and the private sector should be made more effective for economic development, industrial expansion and employment generation in Nepal.

During a meeting with the office-bearers and members of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) at the Sheetal Niwas on Thursday, President Poudel said the private sector is an important partner for Nepal’s economic development.TAG_OPEN_div_38

President Poudel said that Nepal had to face a big natural disaster in recent period, which has affected life as well as infrastructure and economic activities. Expressing sorrow over the loss of life and property due to floods in Bhotekoshi area, he praised the FNCCI for its promptness and support in the rescue, reconstruction and rehabilitation after the disaster.TAG_OPEN_div_36

“The economy can be made dynamic only through trust and cooperation between the government and the private sector. Production should be increased, export promotion, domestic and foreign investment attracted, employment generation and Nepal’s competitive capacity should be enhanced. He said that the potential available in hydropower, tourism, agriculture and agro-based industries, information technology and productive sectors should be utilized in a result-oriented manner. ”

Stating that building a prosperous Nepal was not possible only through the efforts of the government or a single sector, President Poudel called for a national resolution of the state, private sector and society as a whole.TAG_OPEN_div_32

On the occasion, FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha said that Nepal’s economy is in a challenging situation and the pace of investment has not increased as expected, demand in the market is weak and the confidence of entrepreneurs and investors has not yet fully returned. He said that the recent natural disasters have added more challenges to the economy.TAG_OPEN_div_30

Chairman Shrestha said that the floods in the Bhotekoshi area and the loss of life and property due to it have affected roads, bridges, hydropower, tourism, trade and business as well as the movement and supply system between Nepal and China.TAG_OPEN_div_28

Stating that a huge amount of resources would be required for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the disaster-affected infrastructure and private sector projects, he said it would be difficult for the government to complete such reconstruction on its own.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Stating that the private sector has been making significant contribution to Nepal’s GDP and providing employment to a large number of people, Shrestha said that the private sector should be seen not only as a sector to do business but also as an important partner in the country’s construction. He said that stable and predictable policies, clear legal system, quality infrastructure, effective government services and investment-friendly environment were necessary for investment, production and employment expansion.TAG_OPEN_div_24

“There is a need to make the dialogue between the government and the private sector more institutionalized and result-oriented. If the problems faced by the businessmen are addressed in a policy manner, it will have a positive impact on investment, production and employment.” He said. He also informed that the FNCCI has been presenting suggestions to the government regarding necessary reforms in the existing laws and regulations for investment promotion and overall economic development.

On the occasion, President Shrestha also extended gratitude on behalf of the President for the positive attitude and guidance to the private sector as an important partner in the economic development and expressed commitment to make continuous dialogue and collaboration with the government more effective.TAG_OPEN_div_20
