Kathmandu. The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has published a study report on the evaluation of the private equity and venture capital ecosystem in Nepal and regulatory reforms, 2083.
The Board has made public the report with the objective of increasing the availability of long-term capital for economic transformation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development of capital market.
The board has published the report after completing a detailed study on the private equity and venture capital (PEVC) sector.
The Board has made public this study to identify the opinions, suggestions and areas of improvement of the concerned stakeholders through public consultation in course of the implementation of the government’s annual budget for the fiscal year 2083/84, the capital market consolidation and revitalization action plan of the Ministry of Finance, 2083 and the capital market policy of the Board.
The study stresses that PEVC should be developed not only as a specialised investment fund but also as an important tool for economic development linked to entrepreneurship, innovation, job creation, foreign capital attraction and expansion of public capital markets.
Based on the study of international practice, risk-based regulation, investor protection, good governance, transparency, asset protection, qualified investor classification and digital supervision system have been taken as the major basis for future regulatory reforms.
The Board has expressed the belief that the effective implementation of the recommendations of the report would contribute to mobilization of productive capital, promote entrepreneurship and further strengthen Nepal’s PVC ecosystem.
