KATHMANDU: High EU official Antonio Costa on Thursday urged allies to “step up pressure” on Moscow.

The call came after a Russian drone crashed into the platform of a busy Ukrainian railway station, killing at least 14 people. “This is another brutal and devastating series of Russian attacks on the citizens of Ukraine,” Costa wrote on social media.

“The EU will continue to increase pressure on Russia and support Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved,” he said. “We call on all our international partners to do the same.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday’s attack on the Dnipro train station hit the platform where the train passenger train was parked.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, said at this week’s EU-Canada summit and the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta on Oct. 30-31 would “urge partners to strengthen our support for Ukraine.” “Russia must be held accountable,” he said.
