Kathmandu. After the government came up with a plan to clear it by removing gegrans and stones lying around Chobhar Galchi in Kathmandu, various discussions are going on on this issue.

Some people are saying that it should not be touched, while others are of the opinion that clearing it to protect the Kathmandu Valley from inundation will not harm anything.

Locals around Chobhar Galchi have said that the existence of the galchhi will be in danger if the stones are removed from the surface of the naturally formed galchhi after thousands of years of floods.

They argue that even the temple with historical importance along the Galchhi will be in danger. Heritage activists have protested against it. Now they have put up banners on the bridge over Chovar Galchi to protest.

It has come to light that the galchhi will be cleared after the rain during the monsoon season last year submerged the areas along the rivers of Kathmandu. The government is planning to clean the river as it will narrow its flow after approaching Chobhar Galchi and the large stones on the surface of the river will prevent it from flowing further.
