Colombo. Sri Lankan nationals living abroad sent remittances worth $635.7 million in June, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). This is an increase of 22 percent compared to June 2024.
In 2024, total remittances were $6.57 billion. Between January and June 2025, remittances amounted to more than $3.7 billion. This is an increase of 18.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
Remittances are the main source of foreign income for Sri Lanka.
In 2019, 312,836 people from Sri Lanka went abroad for foreign employment.
