Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has informed about the works done during his one-year tenure.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion of completion of one year in office, he informed about the policies, power generation, irrigation development, alternative energy, development and expansion of transmission lines among others.
According to him, the ministry has achieved more than 85 per cent performance in irrigation and 78.17 per cent progress in the overall ministry by formulating an action plan as per the performance agreement signed with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
He said that only 3,200 MW of electricity was generated in 113 years when he was the minister, but now more than 631 MW power projects have been completed in one year and the installed capacity has reached 3878 MW.
He shared that the Ministry of Energy has for the first time unveiled the Energy Development Roadmap-2081 under its leadership and unveiled an action plan to fulfill the dream of energy development and expansion and prosperity by generating 28,500 MW electricity in 10 years i.e. by 2035.
An agreement has already been reached to export 15,000 MW of electricity to India and Bangladesh and a target has been set to consume 13,500 MW of electricity indigenously. He informed that many historic works including the agreement to export 15,000 MW of electricity and the agreement with India for the construction of transmission lines have been completed in this one year.
He claimed that for the first time, 40 MW power sale agreement with Bangladesh has ensured revenue of more than Rs 1.25 billion in five months. India is exporting up to 850 MW of electricity during the rainy season. According to him, work is progressing at a fast pace in the works of 200,000 to 500,000 shares, 5,000 MW PPA opening and mix energy to poor families.
“The water resources bill is the first bill to be passed by this session as a matter of policy and now it has reached the legislative committee from the National Assembly,” he said. The water and weather policy has been passed and the Renewable Energy Bill has been forwarded. The Ministry has been continuously working to formulate laws to resolve various pending laws and policy issues related to energy and water resources and to advance the bills under discussion in parliament. ’
