Tanahun. Myagde rural municipality of the district has provided incentive money to 275 farmers who reared bulls in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS. The government has provided an incentive amount of Rs 4,000 to the farmers after the practice of rearing cattle started disappearing in recent times.
Mukti Ram Poudel, animal development officer of the rural municipality’s animal service sub-section, said the grant programme has been launched to encourage the farmers. “Out of the seven ward offices under the rural municipality, we have provided subsidy to the farmers rearing the same number of ploughs in wards 1 to 4 in the last fiscal year. According to him, for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS, there is a plan to provide subsidy to farmers rearing at least 400 ploughs in three wards number 5 to 7.
The rural municipality has been providing subsidy to the farmers of all the seven wards as an incentive. Subsidy is given to the farmers who rear cattle every year without giving it every year. Rural municipality chair Shree Prasad Shrestha said that such a program has been brought to prevent the land from becoming barren as the practice of rearing cattle is decreasing.
He said, “The number of farmers rearing ploughs is increasing with the incentive amount, with the increase in the number of cattle rearing, the tradition of keeping the fields barren is also being removed and the program is becoming effective.” ’
Bal Krishna Ghimire, vice-chair of the rural municipality, said that farmers have been advised to spend the money provided for the promotion of cattle for the nutrition of cattle. According to the rural municipality, on-site monitoring is carried out in the sheds of the farmers receiving the subsidy and ‘tagging’ the cattle.
