Preparations to amend laws to resolve development problems, create private sector-friendly environment

Kathmandu. The government is preparing to amend the necessary laws to create a private sector and business-friendly environment by resolving the problems seen in the development and construction sector.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal informed that the laws are being amended to resolve the problems of the development and industry sector.TAG_OPEN_div_38

According to Minister Lamsal, the government’s priority is to create a private sector and business-friendly environment. He said that the government has been working with the idea of developing waste management as a business and industry.TAG_OPEN_div_36

Stressing the need to reduce the cost of transportation of raw materials to reduce the cost of production of industries, Minister Lamsal said that the transportation cost is increasing as limestone mines and cement industries are located in different places. He said that the government has forwarded a plan to make the customs rate of vehicles used in the transportation of raw materials to zero and to set up industries as close as possible to the places where raw materials are available. During the discussion, MP Sagar Dhakal said that the infrastructure construction work should be conducted 24 hours a day in three shifts. He also stressed on the need to amend the laws necessary to increase coffee production and export as there is a good potential for coffee farming in Nepal.TAG_OPEN_div_28

MP Ashish Gajurel suggested that public transport should be taken to the public-private partnership (PPP) model. He said that private investment should be encouraged by taking forward the concept of ‘smart transportation’.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Similarly, lawmaker Shreeram Neupane said that the capital expenditure could be increased if the development works could be conducted 24 hours a day. Lawmaker Dharma Raj KC stressed on the formulation of laws related to climate change.TAG_OPEN_div_24

MP Dr. Ram Lama said that the salary and facilities of engineers should be increased and skilled manpower should be stopped from going abroad. Lawmaker Tapeshwar Yadav praised the government’s preparation to establish an engineering college in the Terai and expressed the belief that the number of students going abroad for engineering studies would decrease if the college was established.

Lawmakers Jagdish Kharel, Ujjwal Kumar Jha, Arbind Shah, Dharma Raj KC and Sushil Khadka also put forth their views on contemporary issues in the meeting.TAG_OPEN_div_20
