Dhaka. Dhaka: At least 16 people were killed when a fighter jet crashed into a school complex in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Monday. Most of the dead are students.

This is the most serious plane crash in the last few decades. The Chinese-made F-7 BJI (F-7 BJI) fighter jet crashed on the campus of Millstone School and College in Dhaka shortly after taking off for training at 1.06 pm.

More than 100 people have been injured in the accident, of which 83 are being treated in various hospitals. Rescue operations were launched immediately and security personnel and firefighters worked tirelessly to douse the fire.

Shafiur Rahman Shafi, a student, said, “We were on the playground. Suddenly there was a loud noise, the ground was shaken, and the plane was found to have fallen. Then the fire broke out and soon the army arrived. ’

The government has declared Tuesday as the National Mourning Day. The injured are undergoing treatment and the families of the deceased students are in deep grief. Parents are trying to identify their children by reaching the hospital.

In a message, Interim Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus said: “The loss caused to the Air Force, students, teachers, parents and millstone school staff is irreparable.” This is a very painful moment for the entire nation. ’

Bangladesh’s previous biggest plane crash occurred in 1984, in which 49 people were killed.
