Kathmandu. Kavadi entrepreneurs have submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Saturday urged Home Minister Lekhak to immediately stop the atrocities committed by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) for the last two years, including beating, kidnapping, demolishing structures and confiscating bicycles of collectors and labourers.
“We kavadi entrepreneurs have been operating kavad business in different wards of Kathmandu Metropolitan City by registering them as per the prevailing laws of the Government of Nepal. The kavad businessmen, who have been doing kavad business for years, have been paying all the taxes (revenue) to be paid to the government,” the memorandum said, adding, “The raw materials required for the steel, beer and liquor industries, paper, plastic, battery and metal industries operating in the country have been supplied by the kawad entrepreneurs and the kawad business has a role to play in reducing the trade deficit of the country.” ‘
At present, 100,000 people are directly involved in this business. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been deploying its police for the last two years to beat up, abduct and demolish the structures of kavad businessmen, seize bicycles and belongings of collectors and labourers.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has beaten up the heads of businessmen and collectors. In particular, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah said that the government is trying to remove the poor people from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
“We would like to request the Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs to immediately stop this kind of hooliganism against kavad businessmen and collectors and protect the life and property of the businessmen,” reads the statement.
