Birgunj. In the last fiscal year, 313.865 million kilograms of paddy worth Rs 12.72 billion was imported through Birgunj border point.
Paddy imports have increased by 53 percent in the last fiscal year alone as compared to the previous fiscal year 2080/81 BS. According to birgunj customs office, 208 million 92 thousand 448 kg of paddy worth Rs 8.29 billion was imported in the last fiscal year.
Chief Customs Administrator at the Office, Deepak Lamichhane, said the import of both paddy and rice has increased in the last fiscal year as compared to the previous fiscal year. Not only paddy but also rice imports have increased in the last fiscal year. In the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, 24,813,531 kg of rice worth Rs 2.41 billion was imported. In the previous fiscal year, 13,241,376 kilograms of rice worth Rs 1.73 billion was imported.
Rice imports have increased by 40 percent in the last fiscal year as compared to the previous fiscal year. In the last fiscal year, 139,659,621 kg of maize worth Rs 6.73 billion was imported. In the previous fiscal year, 129.918 million kilograms of maize worth Rs 5.59 billion was imported.
In the last fiscal year, 9,192,981 kg of food grains worth Rs 470 million were imported. In the previous fiscal year, 8,495,445 kg of food grains worth Rs 430 million were imported. Similarly, 847,780 kilograms of kanika worth Rs 40 million was imported in the last fiscal year.
