Manthali. Kathmandu: The Nepal Army has started repairing the Bailey Bridge at Sunkoshi in Khurkot connecting Ramechhap and Sindhuli.

A technical team of the Army has been mobilized to repair the bailey bridge constructed in November last year after some nutbolts used in it slipped and the risk increased.

A technical team of the Army based at Bardibas in Mahottari has started repairing the bailey bridge from Thursday. A 50-metre span (half a bridge) towards Ramechhap in Khurkot was washed away by a flood in sunkoshi river on October 15.

After the bridge was washed away, the bailey bridge was installed with the active participation of the Department of Roads, Nepal Electricity Authority and The Nepal Army.

The risk increased as the number of vehicles increased, the bailey bridge started shaking, some of the latched and the nutbolts slipped and the sheets laid out were loosened. Vehicles carrying a maximum load of more than 15 tons will not be allowed to ply from this bridge, but vehicles with overweight have to cross the bridge.

Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa said the bailey bridge would be repaired within two days.
