Irrigation of 300 hectares through deep boring, 13 projects handed over

Narayangarh. A total of 13 underground water irrigation projects constructed in Bharatpur Metropolitan City have been handed over to the users’ committee. The project was handed over to the committee at a programme held at Alamghat of Bharatpur-23 today. Irrigation facility has been provided to about 300 hectares of land through these projects.

Bishwabandhu KC, office chief of The Underground Water Irrigation Project, Chitwan, said that the project has been constructed with the objective of providing services to the areas where there is a lack of alternative irrigation. According to him, the projects handed over are Narmadeshwor and Manakamana (Bharatpur-15), Rukheni (Bharatpur-18), Sangam, Samjhauta and Juntara (Bharatpur-21), Patihani Parsa (Bharatpur-22), Thadokhola, Kerung, Sangay and Phalguni (Bharatpur-23), Bhagauli (Bharatpur-25) and Jhyauretandi (Bharatpur-27).

Around Rs 73.27 million has been spent on the project. A total of 19,531 meters pipeline has been installed. It has expanded the productive land by supplying water through deep boring in drought-prone areas of Bharatpur.

Consumer farmers have said that the project has made it easier to plant crops during drought. Yam Prasad Lamichhane, a service provider of Patihani Parsa, said the construction of the project has solved the irrigation problem. Similarly, Manibhadra Kandel of Bharatpur-15 Narmadeshwor Project said that the farmers were happy after the water reached the drought land. Anita Waiwa and Kamala Kumari Bishwakarma, service providers of Falguni and Kerunga projects, said irrigation facilities have now become easier through underground water resources.

On the occasion, Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal said the problem of barren land has been solved due to lack of irrigation in the western part of Bharatpur. Stating that deep boring has brought more ease along with Narayani Lift, Khageri Irrigation, he expressed commitment that the metropolis would always support the farmers in necessary support.
