Baglung. Tarakhola Rural Municipality of Baglung has been developed as a hub of hydropower. Currently, two hydropower projects have been completed in Tarakhola, two projects are under construction and two are in process.

Sayapatri Hydro Company has completed the construction of 2.5 MW Darm Khola ‘A’ Hydropower Project at Darmkhola of Rural Municipality-2 and 3 and generated electricity. This is the first project made by a private company. Earlier, small micro-hydropower projects were in operation with the efforts of the community.

Five hydropower projects are in the process of being added to Tarakhola after the construction of Sayapatri Hydropower. Tarakhola Hydropower Project has already been completed while four other hydropower projects are under construction.

Five years ago, the 380 kW Tarakhola Hydropower Project was completed and connected to the national transmission line. At present, the Madhyatarakhola Central Daram ‘A’ Hydropower Project is being constructed in full swing. 60 percent of the work of this project has been completed.

Similarly, the construction of four mw infrastructure of Dam ‘A’ hydropower project has gained momentum. Project operator Milan Khatiwada informed that 40 percent of the infrastructure work has been completed here.

The 3.5 MW Lower Tarakhola Hydropower Project and the 4.5 MW Madhyadaram ‘B’ project are in the process of construction. Chairman of Tarakhola Rural Municipality, Dhan Bahadur BK, has said that the construction of tarakhola hydropower project would be of great help in economic development.

“Tarakhola and Madhyadaram ‘A’ hydropower projects have gained momentum while the work of three other projects from Tarakhola to Galkot has also progressed,” he said. ’

Rural municipality chair Prakash Gharti said the enthusiasm at the local level has increased after the construction of the project gained momentum. “It is a matter of pride that many projects have been constructed for power generation in our rural municipality.
