Gorkha. Gorkha: Livestock farmers of Gorkha will be provided cash subsidy to encourage milk production. Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Service Specialist Centre, Gorkha has allocated rs 5 per litre subsidy to the farmers on the basis of production, said Centre’s chief senior veterinarian Dr Ananta Koirala.
According to him, a budget of Rs 1.5 million has been allocated for providing subsidy on milk for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS. “The cash subsidy programme has been launched with the objective of encouraging farmers to make the district self-reliant on milk,” koirala said. ’
He said the programme would help attract farmers towards animal husbandry. “There is a working procedure to sell milk produced through the listed co-operative societies in the center,” koirala said, adding, “Arrangements have been made to work through cooperatives with the objective that the farmers who produce small amount of milk can also work in an organized manner.” ’
He said that small farmers can also reach the milk produced at home to the market and benefit from the subsidy program by arranging collection and sale through cooperatives. Milk production is good in Gorkha Municipality, Palungtar Municipality and Siranchowk Rural Municipality. The Centre has launched a subsidy programme on milk production under the Livestock and Fisheries Promotion Programme.
Under the programme, 300,000 litres of milk can be subsidized in the district this year. Similarly, the enlisted co-operative societies are required to collect and sell at least 200 litres of milk. “The Centre will provide cash subsidy to the farmers through cooperatives,” he said.
