Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has said that the Nepali garment industry has provided employment to thousands of people.

Speaking at the 30th annual general meeting and inauguration ceremony of Nepal Readymade Garment Industry Association here today, he said nepal’s garment industry has been making significant contribution to employment generation, earning foreign exchange and economic development of the country.

Minister Bhandari lauded the association’s contribution to the development, promotion and protection of the readymade garment industry sector for the past three decades. He said employment generation through domestic production, local skill development and production enhancement was essential for the development of the nation.

Minister Bhandari said that the Ministry is committed to bring necessary policies and programs for quality production, brand building, technology optimization and export expansion.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress leader Ramhari Khatiwada expressed the belief that promoting domestic products by discouraging foreign brands would strengthen the country’s economy, increase employment and strengthen national identity.

Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Ganesh Parajuli stressed the need for the government to take everyone along to promote foreign domestic products and increase employment.
