Kathmandu. Following the decision of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to shut down unregistered social networks in Nepal, ‘Hamro Patro’ has applied for registration.
Spokesperson at the Ministry Gajendra Kumar Thakur said that after the government’s decision to shut down unregistered social networks in Nepal, we have applied to come to the process of enlisting in our calendar today itself.
A larger full bench of the Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice, had on May 12, 2080 ordered the Government of Nepal to list the online and social media platforms of domestic and foreign origin in the concerned bodies before operating them.
Following the order, a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on August 16 had called for enlisting interested individuals, companies or organizations operating social media in Nepal.
According to the Guidelines-2080 issued by the Government of Nepal to manage the use of social media, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has been asked to submit an application within seven days for the listing of its platform by attaching the prescribed documents in the format mentioned in Schedule 1 of the same guideline.
A public notice was published by the Ministry appointing interested individuals, companies or organizations as contact points, resident grievance hearing officers and self-compliance monitoring officers within Nepal.
