Bhojpur. Locals of Homtang of Hatuwagadhi rural municipality have been earning a handsome income by weaving bamboo bares. Traditional ancestral weaving has become a reliable source of income for the people of Homtang.
Most of the locals of Homtang have been weaving naked. The contractors have been weaving and preparing the locals and taking them from the bare houses. Compared to other times, especially Nanglo is produced the highest in August, September and October. According to locals, there is a high demand for nanglo in the Tarai on the occasion of festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
Both men and women of this place weave naked. Pooja Rai, a local, said that they used to manage the household expenses by weaving nanglo. He says that all the families of his house weave naked. He said that he used to weave up to 150 ninglas in a month. According to him, he earns rs 200,000 to Rs 300,000 annually from the sale of nanglo. According to him, the knitted house will be sold for Rs 110 to Rs 120 per piece.
“Nanglo is a good source of income in our region and all the family members of the family together weave nangalo. It is sold from a house. It earns rs 200,000 to Rs 300,000 annually from its sales. Almost everyone in our area has been weaving ninglo commercially,” he said.
Rajendra Rai, a local nanglo businessman of Hatuwagadhi-6, said that around 75 houses of Langkha of Hatuwagadhi-6, 165 houses of Bithara of the then 2, 135 houses of the erstwhile 3 Lumba and 40 households of the then 4 Soyagaun of Hatuwagadhi-5 have been weaving nangalo commercially.
According to Rai, the traders send them to various places in western Nepal along with India. According to him, nanglo weaving is a good source of income for the locals of Homtang. Prakash Rai, a local nanglo entrepreneur, said that the state needs to run incentive programs as most of the locals here are associated with this profession. There is a need to bring more professionalism in it by further developing and expanding it, he said.
“Most of the people of our area weave naked,” he said. The local government needs to pay attention to give it more professionalism. ’
