Around 400 households in Mangala Rural Municipality get drinking water facility

Myagdi. Around 400 households of Mangala rural municipality-5 in the district have been provided with drinking water facility with ‘one house, one tap’.

A total of 365 families have been benefited from the five projects constructed at a total cost of Rs 28.464 million, including water for health ‘Newa’, Kaduri Sanstha, grant from Mangala Rural Municipality and voluntary contribution from consumers.

Bhupendra Khatri, chairperson of Mangala-5, said that drinking water has been distributed through 271 taps from four projects constructed at a cost of Rs 179,64,122 and 90 taps from one project constructed at the cost of Rs 10.5 million from Kaduri Organization.

“All the five projects were initiated and completed in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS”, he said, adding that drinking water has been distributed to all households in the affected areas as well as schools, health institutions and temples by installing private taps. ’

According to ward chair Khatri, 84 taps have been constructed from Pakhu-Kursimla drinking water project at a cost of Rs 4.822 million, Dihi-Kumlera drinking water project at a cost of Rs 2992,739, Sirkum drinking water project at a cost of Rs 6462,912 and Arman drinking water project at a cost of Rs 3686,870.

The Tikawang Water Supply Project, constructed at the cost of Rs 10.5 million, has constructed 90 taps. Of the total cost of the projects, 49 percent of the total cost is Newa, 25 percent is grant from the rural municipality and 26 percent is the labor contribution of the consumers.

Last year, a drinking water project with ‘one house, one tap’ was constructed at Kimchaur and Neta of the erstwhile Arman VDC, where around one thousand households live. Earlier, drinking water projects were constructed in Pok, Chhiswang, Sera, Pipalbot and Hadebhir areas under the Western Nepal Drinking Water and Sanitation Project.

Bharat Sapkota, a local of Pakhu in Mangala-5, said that they have been consuming drinking water from a public tap.
