Damauli. In Tanahun, 91.10 per cent of the population has access to clean drinking water. According to the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office, 292,570 people out of 321,153 population in the district have access to clean drinking water.

Superintendent of Drinking Water Offices Shambhuraj Khanal informed that 56.71 per cent people have access to drinking water to basic level and 34.39 per cent drinking water to medium level. According to him, after the availability of clean and adequate water in every household, it is linked to income generation to produce vegetables in the local vegetable gardens.

A total of 2,927 households had access to drinking water in the district in the last fiscal year. Khanal further informed that drinking water facility has been expanded to 2,221 households through the Gandaki state government, 226 through the federal government’s conditional programme and 480 households through special grants.

In the last fiscal year 2080/80, drinking water facility was expanded to 2,000 households in the district. Likewise, 2,128 households were provided drinking water facility in the fiscal 2079/80, 2,297 in the fiscal 2078/79, 4,317 in the fiscal 2077/78, 2,354 in the fiscal 2076/77 and 1,904 in the fiscal 2075/76.

The target is to expand drinking water facility to 4,300 households in the district in the current fiscal year 2082/83, Khanal said. Minister Khanal said that drinking water facility would be expanded to 2,000 households through the state government, 800 households through the federal government conditionally and 1,500 households through special grant.

The Office has been carrying out works related to demand, survey and design of new drinking water projects, implementation of construction works of drinking water projects, release of project materials, technical support in the construction of drinking water projects, project monitoring, inspection, supervision, evaluation of works carried out in the projects and payment.
