Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative to Nepal, Kyoko Yokosu, met at the latter’s office in Kathmandu today.
In the meeting held at the Ministry of Urban Development at Singha Durbar, the discussion was held on the issues regarding the assistance that the UNDP could provide for the elections, the assistance it is currently providing in the energy and climate change sectors and the implementation status of the plans being operated.
Minister Ghising also said that the government was preparing to provide opportunity to the Nepalis living abroad in course of employment and requested the government to help in adopting the online voting technology being used in other countries in Nepal as well.
He said that the impact of climate change could be mitigated, employment generation through micro and medium scale industries in rural areas, study of glacial lakes at risk, disaster early warning system, preparedness, displacing electric energy from vehicles run on fossil fuel and traditional energy used for household purposes with electric energy, promoting the use of electric energy in energy-consuming industries and reducing carbon emission by replacing coal used in brick kilns. He asked for help.
The UNDP was said to provide support for the elections and take initiatives for the financial assistance that Nepal will get from the Climate Fund.
