BP Highway resumes operation from Friday afternoon

Kathmandu. The BP Highway that connects the federal capital Kathmandu with the districts of Bagmati, Madhes and Koshi provinces has come into operation from Friday afternoon.

Around four kilometres of the highway, which was damaged by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains on October 3, 19 and 19, has been temporarily repaired and one-way opened. Shuvaraj Neupane, chief of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Kathmandu, said that the road will come into operation from Sunday.TAG_OPEN_span_17

A diversion has been constructed at Roshikhol to clear the obstructed road. Repair of the damaged road began on Monday. The floods and landslides had caused the most damage to the road at Chaukidanda of Kavre.

Roads at Katunje, Charsaibensi, Chiuribas, Mangaltar (Boksikuna), Kaldhunga, Piple (Upper), Piple (Lower), Manti (Upper) and Manti (Lower) were badly damaged. Similarly, roads were damaged at Baluwa, Aapghari and Nepalthok (suspension bridges) in Sindhuli.

On Thursday, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising inspected Chaukidanda area and took information about road repair. He instructed them to add equipment and human resources and to work at night by arranging lights.
