Khotang. Locals have constructed a wooden bridge through voluntary labour to resume the transport service which was disrupted after the flood swept away the slope at Tapkhola on Saturday.
Locals of Phedi of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-1, Khartamchha of Ward No. 2 and Baspani of Ward No. 3 of the same Rural Municipality have constructed a 15-meter long wooden bridge in two days to resume the vehicular service. According to local Tilak Sampang Kirati, a local Tilak Sampang Kirati took part in voluntary voluntary service under the leadership of Milan Kumar Rai, chairman of Khartamchha Ward No. 2.
“Transport services have been completely disrupted after the floods swept away the slopes. The water level in the rivulet has not decreased”, he said, adding, “We have constructed a wooden bridge through voluntary labour for the time being.” Now, motorbikes can be commuted at any time. ’
Locals said the construction of wooden bridges over Diktel Rupakot Majuwagadhi Municipality-10, Patheka and Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-2, Khartamchha has made people able to travel to the district headquarters Diktel and other places on motorcycles. A total of 65 people including the rural municipality deputy mayor Gururaj Rai, people’s representatives and local youths participated in the construction of the wooden bridge, said ward chair Rai.
Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality and Ward Office Khartamchha jointly constructed the Shanibare rivulet along the Diktel-Patheka-Phedi road section. Locals of three wards of the rural municipality were compelled to cross the 10-km Diktel-Kharmi road to reach the district headquarters Diktel after the landslide swept away the landslide seven years ago.
The state government has also provided budget for the construction of a motorable concrete bridge at Tapkhola along the Diktel-Patheka-Phedi road section. Ward Chair Rai said that the locals of three wards of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality have allocated Rs 20 million for the construction of motorable concrete bridge under the multi-year plan of the Koshi state government.
