Diwali celebrated as a special cultural festival in the United States

America. Fort Worth, Texas, USA has given special recognition to Deepawali, the second largest festival of Nepalis.

The Fort Worth City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday recognized Diwali as a special cultural festival for the city.

According to the City Council, Diwali will be celebrated every year as the official cultural festival of the City of Fort Worth.

Councilmember Deborah Peoples, on behalf of the city administration, proposed that Diwali be honored as a symbol of the city’s cultural diversity. The council members present supported the proposal, Peoples said.

Councilmember Peoples of District No. 5 handed over the letter to Nepali community leader and Building Standards Commissioner of Fort Worth City Mohan Gyawali.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mayor Mattie Parker said that the city has officially acknowledged the festival of Deepawali-Tihar, the festival of religious, historical, and cultural significance. He said that Fort Worth City is an excellent example of diversity and cultural richness and the Nepali community has also contributed to it.

On behalf of the Nepali community, Gyawali expressed gratitude to the city administration and said that it was a matter of pride for the entire Nepali community to recognize the cultural festival of Nepalis.
