Fast-track to be completed on schedule: Army

. KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army (NA) has completed 32 road projects of strategic importance.

According to Manoj Thapa, director of war operations of the Nepal Army, more than TAG_OPEN_div_34 1,400 kilometers of road has been opened and handed over to the government.

The Nepal Army is currently constructing more than 274 kilometers of road under five road projects including Khandbari-Kimathanka, Karnali corridor, Banighat-Arugha-Larkabhanjyang and Darchula-Tinkaran.TAG_OPEN_div_30

Director Thapa said that the NA has been carrying out works with priority to complete the projects of national pride on the stipulated time.TAG_OPEN_div_27 According to him, the construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai Madhes fast track under the management of the Nepal Army has been expedited.

The Army had taken the responsibility of constructing the road in April 2017.TAG_OPEN_div_25 There was some delay in starting the project work due to delay in approving the Detailed Project Report (DPR) despite being given the responsibility. Project Director Dharmendra Kumar Jha informed that the physical progress of the project is 43.6 percent and financial progress is 44.72 percent. More than 87 bridges need to be constructed under the expressway. Some of them will have bridges up to 82 meters high.

Jha clarified that the construction of such bridges has already reached the final phase and the project will be completed within the stipulated date of Chaitra 2083 BS and the initial estimated cost of Rs 213 billion.TAG_OPEN_div_23

} It will be a short-distance highway connecting the Kathmandu Valley with the central Terai. After the construction, the transportation of goods from Tarai to Kathmandu is expected to reduce the cost and time to a large extent and contribute significantly to the country’s economic development.

According to the Army, out of seven tunnels under the project, two tunnels have been crossed, two are under construction and the portal work of three is underway.TAG_OPEN_div_19 Director Jha said that the Army has been making special efforts to complete the works as per the target of the project.
