Indian Ambassador Srivastava meets Communications Minister Kharel

Kathmandu. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Navin Srivastava paid a courtesy call on Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Communications, Singha Durbar, the two leaders discussed the historical relations between Nepal and the Republic of India, bilateral cooperation and current situation and priorities of the Government of Nepal.

During the meeting, Minister Kharel lauded India’s historic relations and the economic and technical support and goodwill received from India in Nepal’s social and political development during different periods including development projects supported by India.

Highlighting the existing special situation of Nepal, Minister Kharel said holding elections in a free and fair manner, controlling corruption and promoting good governance were the top priorities of the government.

Minister Kharel, who is also the government’s Spokesperson, said that the government has formally started talks with the political parties and Gen-G representatives to create an environment for the scheduled elections and only on Wednesday the first formal tripartite meeting was held between the government, political parties and Gen-G representatives.

On the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava congratulated Minister Kharel and pledged India’s support to Nepal as per Nepal’s need. “The Government of India is keen to enhance financial and technical support in Nepal’s priority areas for economic transformation and prosperity,” he said. Officials from the Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present in the meeting.
