Kathmandu. India has provided 10 additional bailey bridges to Nepal as grant.

India has decided to construct additional 10 Bailey bridges to Nepal this year for the regular operation of the road network, which was damaged by floods and landslides caused by heavy rains.

India had handed over 10 bailey bridges to Nepal last year. At the request of the Government of Nepal, the Bailey Bridge was provided by the Government of India on grant.

KATHMANDU: India on Thursday handed over one of the 10 Bailey Bridges to Nepal. The remaining nine Bailey Bridges are expected to arrive in Nepal within a week. Ambassador of India to Nepal Navin Srivastava handed over the Bailey Bridge to Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising in Hetauda on Thursday.

The Bailey Bridge provided by India is 70 meters long. The width of the bridge is single lane 4. It is 25 meters. The bridge has a load bearing capacity of 38 metric tons.

Speaking at the bridge handover ceremony, Minister Ghising said that the assistance provided by India was important to rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure and ease the road network at a time when Nepal was at a time of natural disaster.

Minister Ghising said India is Nepal’s reliable neighbor in road, energy, education, health and capacity building, among other sectors.

Indian ambassador to Nepal Srivastava said that India was always ready to support Nepal in difficult times. Stating that it would be easier to install the Bailey bridge in the places that have suffered a lot of damage, a technical team will also arrive soon to install the bridge at the selected location, he said.
