Probe committee submits report on Nepal Telecom’s billing system procurement

. KATHMANDU: The probe committee formed to investigate the purchase of Nepal Telecom’s billing system has submitted its report.

Coordinator of the probe committee and former secretary Maniram Gelal handed over the report to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel today.

Receiving the report, Minister Kharel clarified that the bill purchase process of Nepal Telecom would not be obstructed on the basis of the report. He said, “The report itself does not obstruct the procurement process of Nepal Telecom’s billing system, Nepal Telecom is free to make good decisions within the scope of the law.” ”

Minister Kharel said that the report has been prepared as a reference material as a letter has been received from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) regarding the billing procurement process. He said that he had just received the report and it was in the study phase. He said that the suggestions given by the report could be helpful in the procurement process to be held in the coming days.

Maniram Gelal, coordinator of the probe committee, said that the report will not affect the evaluation of secret bids made in the purchase process of Nepal Telecom’s billing system. “Through the report, Nepal Telecom has also given some suggestions regarding establishing itself in the competitive market and regarding privacy and security of personal details of the service recipients,” he said.

The other members of the probe committee are Joint Secretary Gaurav Giri, Joint Secretary Adesh Khadka, Joint Secretary Krishna Panta, Deputy Director at NTA Pradip Poudel, Manager of Nepal Telecommunication Company Limited Dr Kamal Lamichhane and Under-Secretary at the Ministry Rajesh Thapa.
