Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangal has said that a policy would be made for women entrepreneurship in the metropolis. She said this at an interaction on women’s group, committee and empowerment organized by the Department of Social Development at the metropolis meeting hall on Thursday.

Stating that the ‘one ward, one model’ programme related to entrepreneurship has started yielding results, he said his goal was to make women groups entrepreneurs as well. “Even if you stay at home, you can have some skills in your hands. Someone knows how to make sweet food. Someone knows how to sew clothes. Someone knows how to make decorative items. It’s an income-generating skill. What do I know and don’t sit still? ” she said, encouraging the women.

Samikshya Niraula, chief of the Department of Social Development, said that the women committee has brought positive changes in the status of women (facilities, status, access, time saving, status (self-respect, dignity, voice and influence) and their performance (priority, dedication and solution).

The Department of Social Development in the metropolis has started forming women development groups and committees in 2075 BS. Groups have been formed in all the wards in 2078 BS. At present, there are 35 Women Development Committees in the metropolis. There are 5÷5 other 600 groups under these committees.

The members of the group collect a certain amount of money for the month through mutual consultation. If you look at the amount deposited in this way, it seems that the amount of money deposited is from 100 to 500 rupees. The money deposited in this way is returned every 2 years with interest.

The group currently has 3,001 members. The groups meet every month. They also earn income from social activities and skill-based training. Women can come out of the house after joining the group formed in this way. This is the first step towards women’s empowerment.

The women participating in the program said that they were able to register their business and run their enterprises with the support of the metropolis. “We don’t have to buy dishes like soap, detergent, harpic, fennel. We produce ourselves. We will also share our experiences by visiting other committees. We are excited about it. “They shared their experiences.
