Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising said that the state was facing a huge loss as the contractors failed to complete the work assigned to them and employees failed to complete their responsibilities on time.
Speaking at a program organized by Nepal Engineering Council (NEC) in Lalitpur on Sunday, Minister Ghising said that the implementation of the projects has been complicated due to lack of technical expertise in the infrastructure sector and failure to take decision on time. According to Ghising, due to the delay in the completion of the project, the benefits of employment generation, productivity and contribution to the gross domestic product could not be accrued.
“Problems have surfaced not only because of contractors who have not completed many projects but also because of the delay in taking decision on time,” said Ghising, adding, “There is a tendency to not take any decision and fear even if it has to be done.
He said that engineers have to spend more time in handling social and environmental issues in development projects rather than their technical issues.
